On August 12, 2023, the Mount Airy Rotary Club will sponsor the second annual Mount Airy Mile. Our race Foundation will support those with extraordinary expenses that are above and beyond what are covered by medical insurance for residents of the 21771-zip code. 

 

I am writing as the Race Director and as one who has experienced a catastrophic medical condition and expense as a heart transplant patient.   My journey included 3 months to diagnose my heart condition, a 2 year waiting list that require wearing 2 lifesaving heart pumps, and a total hospital stay for over a year. I was fortunate to have family and close friends stay with me each night.  I understand the mental and financial strain a diagnosis like this takes on individuals and their families. 

 

The Mount Airy Mile race will begin at the intersection of Ridgeville Blvd and Main Street and ends at the caboose, with a post- race celebration at Liquidity Aleworks. 

 

We will also have a very special guest – Daniel Romanchuk.  Daniel is a Boston Marathon winner and Para-Olympian gold medalist and we will have Mount Airy recognize him.  He grew up in Mount Airy.
